For us at pro aqua, this is particularly exciting: the experimental series relied on proven BDD technology from pro aqua.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">The aim of the study was to generate biogas as a sustainable energy source from wine lees through anaerobic digestion and to demonstrate that electrochemical oxidation using boron-doped diamond electrodes (BDD) significantly improves process stability and yield.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-6ae3e9b elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6ae3e9b\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-2286ada\" data-id=\"2286ada\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8bc64de elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8bc64de\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Scientific Study as Proof of Concept<\/h4>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">The study originates from an independent scientific context and examines the integration of electrochemical processes into modern energy generation. The choice of wine lees as the medium made it a real stress test.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Because such wine residues are:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"10\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\">Chemically highly complex: packed with inhibitory polyphenols and organic acids.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,1,0\">Biologically difficult to break down: they tend to acidify rapidly and can quickly destabilize biological processes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,2,0\">A genuine real-world scenario: far removed from simple synthetic laboratory solutions. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><br \/>If a process can reproducibly boost methane formation under these conditions, it demonstrates the remarkable robustness of the technology.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 data-path-to-node=\"13\">The study demonstrated that pretreatment with pro aqua BDD cells drastically increases the efficiency of the subsequent biogas production:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"14\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,3,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Nearly doubling of biogas yield<\/b>: The volume of biogas obtained per kilogram of wine lees was almost doubled through electro-oxidative pretreatment. <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">The <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\" data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"273\">biogas volume<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"> increased from approximately <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\" data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"318\">180 to up to 330 L\/kg VS<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: transparent\"> after 1.5 hours of EO pretreatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,4,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Reduction of inhibitory compounds<\/b>: BDD-based electro-oxidation reduced, among other things, the concentration of polyphenols, which can impair anaerobic digestion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,5,0\" class=\"translation-block\"><b>Increase in acetic acid<\/b>: <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">The pretreatment led to increased acetic acid formation. This indicates that complex organic compounds were converted into more readily biodegradable intermediate products that can promote methane formation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,6,0\" class=\"translation-block\">In direct comparison, however, <b>biochar showed no measurable improvement<\/b> for the process.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-fcbab80 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"fcbab80\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-200bfbd\" data-id=\"200bfbd\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ce853a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0ce853a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Why Diamonds Make the Difference<\/h4>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,0,0\">Electrochemical oxidation has long been an established process. What is decisive, however, is the type of electrodes used. In the case investigated, the electrochemical pre-treatment of wine residues significantly improved the conditions for subsequent anaerobic digestion and substantially increased biogas production.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4358\" data-end=\"4844\">The study therefore provides an important indication for other applications in water and residual materials treatment where biological processes are impaired by complex organic composition, inhibitors, or poorly degradable substances.
