We are pleased to announce the official launch of our strategic partnership with WSP Global Inc. With boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes from pro aqua serving as the technological core, WSP has finalized the development of PFASER — a patent‑pending water treatment solution designed to destroy per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and perchlorate in contaminated water. PFASER is now available for field deployment.
A Milestone in Electrochemical Water Treatment
PFASER combines the efficiency of electrochemical oxidation (EO) with a robust perchlorate removal process. The compact, modular system is designed for mobile use. At its core is the BDD flow cell from pro aqua, featuring patented high‑performance electrodes made of boron‑doped diamond.
What Makes PFASER Unique
Unlike conventional EO systems, PFASER integrates electrochemical oxidation and perchlorate removal in a single, continuous process, complemented by a granular activated carbon (GAC) post treatment stage. Precise control of pH, temperature, and oxidant dosing ensures maximum process safety.
A single treatment cycle takes between 15 and 60 minutes. All parameters are monitored and regulated in real time via a PLC system with HMI interface.

Proven BDD Technology by pro aqua
A key component of the system is pro aqua’s BDD flow cell. Its high-performance electrodes are engineered for the most demanding operating conditions. In real-world applications, they have been in continuous operation for over six years - with no need for replacement.
From Inlet to Outlet – A Closed, Controlled Process
Process flow: Microfiltration, EO-based oxidation with recirculation and temperature stabilization, addition of hydrogen peroxide to prevent chlorine gas formation, pH adjustment with sulfuric acid to optimize effectiveness, and a final GAC stage for removal of perchlorate and residual PFAS. The system can be operated manually, semi-automatically, or fully automatically. Sensors continuously monitor pressure, flow rate, pH, conductivity, and temperature in real time.
Field-Tested Performance Under Real Conditions
A pilot project has already demonstrated the system’s performance: PFASER treated contaminated groundwater over a two‑month period at a capacity of 9.6 m³/day. The effluent values consistently complied with environmental regulations.
Beyond PFAS
In addition to PFAS and perchlorate, PFASER also shows potential for the degradation of other persistent organic compounds, including ethanol, phenol, acetone, methanol, formaldehyde, as well as residues from pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and the textile industry.
PFASER was developed with field deployment in mind:
- Container-based and mobile
- Fully automatable and remote-controllable
- Minimal chemical input
- No sludge production
- Low maintenance requirements
- Fast PFAS degradation

Compelling cost-efficiency
Compared to conventional on‑site remediation or off‑site disposal, PFASER typically pays for itself within one to four years.
Efficient Use of BDD Technology
For a wide range of sectors, the partnership between pro aqua and WSP unlocks new potential — combining pro aqua’s technological depth in BDD cell development with WSP’s global engineering expertise. The result: high end, economically viable system solutions.
PFASER is a prime example of this collaboration. WSP develops the complete solution - from ready‑to‑use systems to custom‑engineered installations for specific applications, industries, or contamination profiles - with pro aqua providing expert support to ensure that BDD technology is applied in the best and most targeted way possible.

Global Challenge, Joint Solution
PFAS contamination is a global challenge that demands scalable and flexible solutions. As the demand for mobile treatment units grows - and regulatory pressure increases - WSP delivers best‑in‑class solutions for its clients, from large‑scale contaminated sites to localized hotspots. At pro aqua, we support WSP in this mission, providing our high‑performance BDD Flow Cell technology and deep expertise to help design and implement robust, field‑ready PFAS destruction systems - for the benefit of the environment as well as WSP’s and pro aqua’s clients alike.
